I do several things to be involved in the community. First off is that I’m a self advocate who advocates for change in Alberta for the disability community and I am part of certain groups and organizations that advocates for change and support for disabled individuals in Alberta. I am in a group called Aact or Albertans advocating for change together as a self advocate and we’re a progressive group community that talks about issues affecting the community I’m a part of as a disabled person and someone who is autistic and a diverse group of individuals that we support in all communities in Alberta. I’m in the NDP disability caucus and we try to support the NDP as well as other progressive organizations and self advocates and advise politicians on issues related to disability and promoting change and supporting policies that benefit disabled people as well. As a local citizen in Grande Prairie Alberta I am in the accessibility committee of Grande Prairie and we try to make sure that Grande Prairie is 100% accessibility is achieved and educate people about accessibility issues and other accessibility issues and concerns related with people with disabilities. I am also a member of the Grande Prairie seventh day Adventist Church and I am very grateful to be part of this group because I have been able to participate in many ways in the SDA church in Grande Prairie. I’ve been permitted to participate in different activities and assigned positions in various ministries throughout my career as an Adventist Church member. I know that I am valued by my peers as well in the church community. They also encourage my participation in church activities and matters of faith and importance. When they need help I try to volunteer my services as well to the church and others in my community especially church members and such. I started going to the Adventist church in 2008 and was officially baptized in 2010 and I don’t regret that at all. And as people and organizations get back into the new normal CMHA or Canadian mental health association is starting up group programs again and they mean a lot to me and fellow clients as well in CMHA. I get services from CMHA’s spd program or support for people with disabilities programs. CMHA has been supporting me for years and every Saturday morning I have a worker who takes care to take me to church every sabbath morning at 9-12:30 pm. We have sabbath school every week and then divine worship services. And on Thursday afternoon and Thursday night I attend a couple of small groups through the SDA church and discuss how God has worked in our lives and reading materials written by Ellen G White and the bible as well getting to know him and each other as well as our shared experiences and faith. I try to be as active as possible in the church community as well.
